Background[]
King Ryan & April Fooze are long-time friends that are known as frequent collaborators, the duo met when they recorded this song in 2021 but it wasn't released til the following year. The duos first official release was the collaboration, "If You're Broke I'm Busy". It wasn't until the instant success of their first official release they sought out to do more collaborations. Following the release of "If You're Broke I'm Busy", Ryan moved to Los Santos to pursue a music career. With a quick turn around (~1 week), the duo surprise released two new singles at April's "25th" birthday party. One single being an April solo release; "April's Fool", and the other single being the first vocal collaboration of the duo; "What If". The song was an instant success and became and still holds the title of both of their most successful song, 21x Platinum or 2x Diamond (2,190,105 plays as of January 6, 2023).

In May of 2022, April Fooze took a trip to Utah to visit King Ryan's studio where he went to focus on new music. While there the duo decided to record a stripped-back and stringed keyboard version of the song. The remix released on June 28, 2022 and has since been certified platinum.
