Fumbles Family History[]
The Fumbles family consists of clowns, all raised by a mysterious figure known only as "The Ringmaster," who owned a circus. The Ringmaster began "adopting" children who were unwanted or discarded by their families, aiming to build a performing family of clowns. He would disregard their birth names, give them the surname Fumbles, and create falsified birth records. None of the Fumbles know their real names, except for Stumbles, who keeps his secret from everyone, including his siblings.
The Ringmaster would not bestow a first name upon the Fumbles until they had been in his care for exactly five years. On that day, he held a naming ceremony, the details of which are shrouded in secrecy. If asked, the Fumbles would provide a false version of the ceremony's proceedings.
Each Fumbles' first name rhymes with their surname and highlights a prominent trait. For example, Stumbles is prone to getting hurt and making mistakes, while Dumbles was raised to believe that losing is winning and being uneducated signifies having a prestigious education.
Leaving Home[]
The first clown to leave the circus was Stumbles. While he loved being a clown, he hated performing in the circus and despised the Ringmaster for withholding his family history. Shortly after Stumbles left, others followed suit. Some even abandoned their clown names and adopted normal names, like Ralph, and pursued ordinary careers, such as dentistry. Despite leaving, those who departed kept in touch over the years, though some more than others.
Another Notable Exit |

Mumbles Fumbles grew up as one of the many adopted children under the strict and enigmatic Ringmaster. Naturally shy and reserved, Mumbles often preferred the company of his own thoughts over the noise and chaos of the circus. His tendency to speak softly and stumble over his words earned him the name "Mumbles" during the secretive naming ceremony held by the Ringmaster after five years of adoption. Despite the Ringmaster’s efforts to mold Mumbles into the perfect clown, he struggled with performing. His quiet demeanor and lack of confidence made him an awkward fit for the loud and lively circus acts. Whenever Mumbles tried to speak up or assert himself, the Ringmaster harshly disciplined him, reinforcing the idea that he should "stay true to his name" and remain in the background. This constant discouragement led Mumbles to retreat further into himself, observing life from a distance rather than participating in it. Mumbles remained in Liberty City for a few more years before eventually moving to Los Santos, just weeks before the outbreak of the Great Clown/Mime War II. |
The Trio |
---|
Among the many siblings, three clowns formed an especially strong bond: Stumbles, Mumbles, and Dumbles. These three developed an unbreakable loyalty to each other while growing up. Stumbles and Mumbles agreed to always look out for Dumbles, who was deliberately raised to be naive and uneducated by the Ringmaster, leaving him ill-equipped to navigate the world on his own. This pact ensured that, despite the chaos of their upbringing, the trio would always have each other's backs. |
