South Los Santos, also known as South Side, is a district in the City of Los Santos.
Overview[]
South Los Santos, akin to its adjacent counterpart, East Los Santos, is a region that is a poor and dangerous area. This part of Los Santos is characterized by street gangs that dominate the district. In stark contrast to its northern counterpart, South Los Santos bears the scars of neglect and decay, evident in the dilapidated storefronts, residences, and tenements that populate its streets.
The district is the most densely populated area in San Andreas, with a large proportion of the city's population residing within its boundaries. This high population density is a key factor in the district's economic and social challenges, with many neighborhoods showing signs of neglect, including dilapidated storefronts, residential buildings, and public infrastructure. Despite these hardships, South Los Santos serves as a critical residential hub, offering homes for many of the city's residents.
When the state was reopen after the fall of the previous government the district became a focal point for real estate development when the new government offered homes for sale in South Los Santos, alongside other areas like Mirror Park, Paleto Bay, Sandy Shores, and El Burro Heights. Additionally, South Los Santos was the first region to offer warehouses for sale, indicating its strategic importance for industrial and business activity.
Gang Activity[]
The dynamics of gang control and territorial shifts are particularly notable in South Los Santos. Grove Street, once the stronghold of the South Side Ballas, experienced significant changes when the Leanbois took control in mid-2020, renaming it Lean Street. The ownership of this key area shifted several times, with the Leanbois selling it to Chang Gang, then to the East Side Ballas, and eventually back to the Ballas by 2021. This series of exchanges underscores the volatile nature of gang turf in the district.
Another significant area, Forum Drive, marks a socio-economic divide, with the western section dominated by housing projects and the eastern side featuring single-family homes and businesses. Chamberlain Hills, historically associated with The Families, has been a hotspot for gang-related conflicts, reflecting its deep-rooted connections to the district's past.
Jamestown Street is controlled by the Vagos gang, with their stronghold "The Barrio" serving as their base of operations, emphasizing their long-standing influence in the area. This gang activity contributes to the complex and often tense social environment of South Los Santos.
Key Infrastructure[]
Despite its challenges, South Los Santos boasts essential institutions that serve the needs of its residents. Davis City Hall and the Central Los Santos Medical Center provide critical governance and healthcare services, supporting the local community's well-being. Additionally, the district is known for its massive underground sewage and waste disposal system, nicknamed "Sewer City," which underscores the area's significant infrastructure.
Community leaders play a vital role in maintaining the district's functionality. Leo Earthwell, the Sanitation Boss, is responsible for ensuring effective waste management, while Tom Towingson, the Towing Manager, leads efforts to provide vehicular assistance and support to the district's workforce.
Local Businesses[]
South Los Santos is home to a variety of local businesses that contribute to its economic vitality. Establishments like the Vanilla Unicorn Strip Club, Mosley's Auto, and Suds Law Laundromat are integral to the community's social and economic fabric. These businesses provide entertainment, auto repair services, and laundry facilities, catering to the diverse needs of the district's residents.
