The San Andreas State Marshals (SASM) serve as the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) independent law enforcement agency, previously under the leadership of Justice Brittany Angel. They have full jurisdiction over the state of San Andreas.
General Description[]
As an independent law enforcement agency under the Department of Justice, SASM plays a pivotal role in overseeing criminal activities, addressing public corruption, and protecting DoJ and state buildings. Their responsibilities extend to investigating organized crime, declaring martial law when necessary, and utilizing advanced equipment to uphold state integrity. The headquarters of SASM is strategically located in the building that once housed the Davis Police Department.
Foundational Role and Constitutional Basis[]
The SASM was established to combat threats that threaten the state, ensuring the safety and rights of citizens are protected. Article II, Section 1 of the San Andreas Constitution empowers the DoJ to create an independent law enforcement agency. The SASM embodies this authority, safeguarding the state's integrity and the rights enshrined in its constitution.
Responsibilities and Implementation[]
The San Andreas State Marshals' duties are extensive and critical. They provide independent oversight of all law enforcement agencies, ensuring the preservation of institutional integrity. They protect appointed and elected officials, investigate and prosecute government corruption and organized crime, and maintain law and order throughout the state. Additionally, they safeguard government buildings and the constitution against threats from both within and outside the state.
To carry out these responsibilities, the SASM operates under a detailed implementation plan. The SASM has the authority to temporarily suspend other law enforcement agencies if corruption or heinous acts are discovered, acting as a corrective force rather than a replacement. They maintain internal standard operating procedures, employment rosters, and other organizational documents, managed by the overseeing Justice or delegated authorities.
Emergency Powers and Recruitment[]
In times of severe unrest or threats to the state, the SASM has the power to declare a State of Emergency. This declaration grants the SASM heightened authority, including the use of heavy equipment and relaxed law enforcement guidelines. Such emergencies are strictly temporary and are rescinded once the threat is neutralized. The SASM also has the right to recruit individuals as necessary, extending their powers to citizens if the situation demands it.
Structure[]
The SASM is under the purview of the DoJ and has the following ranks:
- Director - The leader of the SASM, currently vacant
- Field Director - High command members of the SASM
- Marshal - Senior members of the SASM
- Deputy Marshal - The lowest rank for full members of the SASM
- Rookie Marshal - Conditional employees of the SASM, they are to be partnered with full members until promotion
