Background Information[]
Ryan Lucas Edwards is the middle of the three kids to Sean & Alex. From an early age it was instilled to put others before himself and to strive to make the world a better place. A daunting task sure, but his parents would say a little difference can make a bigger change down the road that for every action there was a reaction. Ryan was a kid who was always active in anything he could find. He was active in boy scouts and karate for years and found time for various sports all year long. Never being one to focus on just one thing, he always had to have something going on. This would come to bite him as he got older.
Being a mix of his father's stubbornness and mother's wit, Ryan came to call himself a "sarcastic asshole" one who always said too much or took it too far. Get him in trouble? Absolutely. Fights? You know it. But, he took Sean's advice to heart and would never make the same mistake twice - unless provoked but that's a story for another day. Many years were spent in the garage with his dad as he worked on cars, growing into a self-proclaimed gearhead. He might not know the best way to fix something but he took pride in getting something to work. He didn't have the good hands of Ben but he could get a job done. Ry never thought of being the best at one ability, rather being great at a number of things. He often found himself overwhelmed and his parents would step in to get him to slow down.
Even becoming a "buddy" with his dad they did often clash and argue. It never got physical, but Ryan as I said he said too much? Yeah, his mouth came back to bite him especially with Sean. The biggest point of contention centered around Ryan's desire to be a cop - as he simply didn't know what he wanted to do. As stated Ry was always active growing up, as he graduated high school he came to realize there wasn't really anything to do now. And with all the free time, what was he going to do now? He didn't know. Sean expected Ry to follow in his footsteps and be a cop - and Ryan just wasn't sure if that was for him. Had he considered it? Yeah. But, was it for him? He wasn't sure. Doing everything was what he wanted and going into one thing - could he do it?
The years passed and Ryan found himself going to a local college in pursuit of a degree. He worked at a mechanic to help pay for school, but knew the garage life wasn't for him. Even there he dabbled in everything: repairs, paint jobs, paperwork, and more. Nearing graduation everything came to a head. Ryan had told his parents the goal was to travel and figure out what he wanted to do exactly. His first stop was going to visit Katie who was working in the eastern part of the state. The first night he was there she was shot on duty - it in fact was going to be her last shift before taking a small vacation. This shook Ryan to the core, as he felt he should have been there to protect her. Obviously, he couldn't have done everything. Katie was going to recover but the visit was ruined....and Ry canceled his travel plans.
Heading home he spoke with his dad. Putting past contentions beside, Ryan told him he knew what he wanted. He wanted to protect those who couldn't protect themselves and he wanted to make sure those who chose that same path got home to their loved ones. But, he wanted to do it on his own terms. With his parents blessing he began to look for a place to go. Doing what he does best, Ryan threw a dart at a map seeing it land on Los Santos. Sean said he knew some people out there but Ryan refused. Packing a suitcase, Alex made sure he had enough money and his plane ticket.
Arrival to Los Santos[]
Shortly after arriving in Los Santos, Ryan sought out the place he was looking for: Mission Row Police Department. Discovering a long wait was set to begin, Ryan looked for opportunities to make some money on the legal side. It took only moments of walking out the door at Mission Row to stumble into the police tow yard, and find an honest job. Speaking to multiple individuals, he was hired on the spot and shown the proper uniform and fell in line.
After several days learning the job, Ryan was promoted to lot attendant responding solely to impound calls from police officers. Multiple times he received calls from people around the city asking for help, but Ryan politely declined due to his job being to assist the police and them only.
Through a coworker, he learned about a potential job opening at Harmony Repairs Garage, and went there immediately. Through a phone conversation, and eventual interview, Ryan was hired as a mechanic by James Thompson. Ryan's biggest things were making friends while learning the job, and hopefully getting to know officers as his dream job was to work for the police. Some of his early friends in Harmony were: Henry Goodman, Chas Diaz and Jenna McKenna.
Over time he casually let them know of his dreams of working as a police officer, and they took it well. Henry one time mentioned how people want to hang out with him but because of questionable activities - like street racing - keep him out of it. They were rooting for him to chase his dreams, even if their side activities would conflict it. It was mutually agreed that if he joined the police department, it would be a parting of ways. Too many conflicts of interest.
