General Description[]
Mari McKay, a former Deputy Mayor and once member of HOA, is a full member of Hades.
She returned to Los Santos after a grueling five year mission - a failed search for her missing husband, KJ.
During the initial years following KJ's sudden move to Norway, the couple did their best to keep in touch but soon, the calls became less and less - before stopping completely. Mari was distraught, not knowing if the man she loved was dead, alive, busy...or what. She always holds a place for him in her heart, but time heals all wounds. Or at least - in this case, threw a band-aid on it.
Mari is someone who thrives when she has people she cares about, and people to protect. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true, she struggles when alone - and despite constantly putting up a strong front she could quite easily crumble. To alliterate that, she drinks. A lot. Lessened only by her new smoking habit.
The people she once trusted, and called family all left. One by one.
Mari will be nice, amicable, some may even still call her one of the kindest people they ever met. But don't expect her to call you a friend, nor for her to talk about herself. For Mari has chosen to close herself off. It's easier. Safer.
Mari is ferociously loyal to those who do her good, and would never betray them. But her trust is easily broken.

KJ and Mari kept in contact for the first year he was away; then - things became more sporadic. He became more rushed. Then. Silence. Concerned. Mari liquidated all her assets and used the money to fly to Norway. She spent all her money on trying to locate him, and found nothing but a seedy underbelly. She had to take on a few assassination jobs to get the money to come home. She came across a man named Jon, who she [Redacted find out in RP LEL] to try and locate KJ. In the end, it resulted in her eating his eyeball and leaving him for dead. Hurt, and pained - as the man insinuated that KJ was dead. Defeated, Mari returned to the shadow of a city that was once Los Santos. There she used the skills she picked up searching for KJ to make a pittance of money as a knife for hire. There she kept to herself. Forced herself to move on. Would she see the man she loved ever again? She wasn't sure - but that didn't matter now. What mattered was her survival. She became a cutthroat, literally. Mari learned she enjoyed working in the shadows more, it was less messy. Less of a chance to be attached to people, only to lose them. She had lost everyone she considered family. So, it was easier to just…not bother anymore. There are rumblings in the underbelly of the city; people are returning to Los Santos... Who would Mari see there again? |
Background Information[]
Mari lived in a rural fishing town in Australia. With her mother. grandmother, and youngest sister. An unremarkable and boring life for most of her time but there a few key events that stand out.
At age 15- Mari was on a trip with school friends in the wilderness. They, in a cruel joke, drove off and left her there. Mari was lost and spent three days surviving on her own. She had to kill, cook, and eat native fauna and flora and describes the time as 'literally shitty' due to this, Mari doesn't shy away from interesting foods - and even developed a curiosity for what all kinds of meats taste like. She also learned that not everyone is her friend.
At age 18 - Her family went on an overnight fishing trip, a usual occurrence for them - they were caught in a flash storm. Her and her youngest sister (Nellie- Age 5) went overboard. Mari was rescued but her sister was lost. Mari blames herself for this, and wishes that she was taken by the sea instead. Mari is wracked by guilt of being saved over someone so young. Mari used a mixture of Alcohol, codeine, oxy, and prescription drugs, and reckless behavior to cope with this.
Her mother had remarried and Mari, along with her new family moved to the United States. However, feeling displaced, Mari chose to move to a different city, Los Santos. She wanted a complete change of scenery and a fresh start to help her move on from tragic events.

THE BEGINNING, AGAIN.

Once again recovering from her alcoholism Mari finds herself back in the streets of Los Santos. At first glance not much seems different about her, but her bubbly personality seems to have dimmed. She took up smoking - alleviating one vice for another. She left Norway a different person, she had to do things that changed her. Eating an eyeball? That was nothing, she uses that as almost a comedic device to alleviate the shit she had to do afterward. Many would say she is the same person, albeit a little skinnier - a smoker - sometimes more curt. But overall, she has the same demeanour. The first thing Mari felt when she returned to Los Santos was relief - knowing that KJ was alive. Things weren't the same between them. They talked. And though she still loves him, it was best they were not together. Things happened. She met up with Benji, and Ray - who were starting ‘’The Company” Mari had offered her help to them multiple times in the first few weeks but was met with mostly silence, beyond both of them asking her for money. Mari felt lost, not really knowing what to do - she started hanging out with Reggie as they did civilian jobs around the city. In her first week Mari was invited by Andi Jones and Siz Fulker to join ‘Not HOA’ Mari said she needed to think about it, because after everything that happened the last five years…she did not want to be alone. Finn also hinted at her that ADMC could be interested; but she isn’t sure if she misinterpreted him. In the end, Mari chose to live in a house with Reggie, Nick, Michael, Dahlia, Manny and Victoria. Two days after committing to that, KJ asked her if she wanted to move in with him and ex SS boys, but Mari had already made that commitment. The ‘Nikea’ house, also known to many as the ‘Simone’ house has been nothing but drama - that Mari is trying to stay out of. With Victoria moving out due to the guild hanging around - Nick threatening to stab Yeager, and overall just small things that compiled. Mari is okay with the house - but has admitted she isn’t happy there to Reggie and is considering walking away if she can get her initial investment back. After much discussion and deliberation, Mari chose to part ways with the Nikea house, they all remain on good terms and Mari wishes them the best, even offering to still help with Nikea sales.

In the end, she heard nothing from them - and being one to not rely on others she did her own thing for the following months. It wasn't till after she left the NIkea house she started to explore her options. Mari had a very heartwarming discussion with Finn from ADMC, and still had her offer from 'NotHOA' Denzel also seemed to show interest in what she was up to. Despite that, Mari talked with Benji and Ray, and once again; offered to help and remind them of her intentions. They told her to get $5k and be an intern for a week, Benji upped it to $10k. He gave her a week. Mari did this in one day, with gaining $5k in cash and $8.6k in moonshine ingredients. Mari was officially accepted into the company as an asset the following day on the 21st of February 2024. To what capacity she isn't entirely sure. Mari has stated that she adores the people in The Company, however - they don't need her, and she doesn't need them to succeed. She is with them because she trusts, and enjoys their companionship. And has told herself she will always be happy to help, but will also not allow herself to be used. In less than a week later; Mari met up with Mickey and discussed what she wanted to do with The Company. He immediately made her the Head of Communications - and offered her a spot on the cyber security division. Currently, Mari is Head of Communications, Cyber Security and helps Perez with his moonshine operation. As of 3rd March, Mari has coughed up blood approximately 5 times. |

- Mari is loyal to a fault. Often at her own detriment. In the past it has cost her friendships, and substantial monetary gain. Mari is a strong believer that her word is the strongest thing she can give.

- Mari has grown colder over the years, and will rarely open up to people easily, unless you get to know her or are certain familiar faces from her past.
- She apparently takes a dump between the hours of 7-8pm daily
- Mari is allergic to Cucumbers, and pickles which are indeed, just gross cucumbers.
- After an incident in Norway she now hates the taste of weed, and no longer smokes it
