The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is the current investigative division for the Unified Police Department/3.0. The unit was established on April 30th, 2023.
General Description[]
The Major Crimes Unit is the official Investigative Division of the Unified Police Department/3.0, which is composed of both the Detective Unit and the State Attorney's Office. They mainly operate out of Strawberry Avenue 4, ALPHA, and Vinewood Police Department. The unit as a whole is ran by Lead Supervisor Kovacic and the leadership team combines the leads of both divisions.
The Detective Unit comprises of highly skilled Investigators dedicated to Major Crimes, which includes any investigation with prosecutorial value and spans multiple days of activity. This division is led by Detective Supervisor May, Detective Supervisor Russel, Detective Supervisor Bundy, and [[Aurora Rayne|Detective Supervisor Rayne.
The State Attorney's Office comprises of Prosecutors intended to integrate with, and to empower and support, all detectives in the Police Force, throughout their investigation and prosecution. State Attorney Glafx leads this division.
In addition to their own responsibilities, the MCU also oversees the individual Detective Units of each Police Department. They are responsible for issuing certifications and clearances for Major Crimes Investigations, Undercover Operations, and Court Prosecution.
Additionally, the MCU has affiliated members of PD who act as liaisons known as Patrol Liasons. These trusted officers work closely with the MCU to inform them when matters pertaining to cases arise.
Finally, the MCU works with the Los Santos Medical Group via Dr. Sarah Tonain for criminal profiling and analysis and Dr. Peri Wattson and Dr. Philippa Canter for coroner's work. In addition, the Unit works with various external partners for ensuring transparency and cooperation.
