History

Mai is a fiery and troubled youth brought up in Chicago. Now being in mid 20s, he stands an average (5’ 11’’) with a sturdy build and immense reflexes. The piercing dark brown eyes, tattooed arms and black hair with a fashion sense leaning more toward a gothic style imposed a sense of mind-your-own-business to anyone that wanted a piece of him. By nature he’s a paranoid person and never ever had a real relationship or at least a friendly attachment. Every now and then he’d perform a small act of kindness but kept it simple and out of lengthy interactions. He’s a calculated and brilliant personality that is hard to read. Mai strongly believed that every man’s to himself and often credited his strength for his solitary nature.

As a small child, he was the only adopted son of Kiara ‘The Lady’ Morais who was the head of the Morais gang based on Hammond, South Chicago. Everybody held the Lady and her three brothers in feared respect and high esteem as they controlled a significant portion of betting centers and pawn shops in the town. Little Mai grew up with the family and his cousins. He was a pyromaniac and loved to play with fire and heated objects, causing him many burnt wounds. Mai had a habit of disassembling anything, whether it’s a toy or a machine. Being a kinesthetic learner, he broke, altered and rebuilt whatever he got a hold of and learnt many things in the process. School failed him as he was never ready to read, listen and learn from teachers. His hostile nature got him easily expelled from school at a young age after an altercation with another young boy.  

The Morais gang had many challenges from outsiders seeking to set their foot in the business of Hammond. Mai and all other cousins had to live confined within their safe boundaries as The Lady feared an attack at any time. Life changed for him one summer night as some intruders breached their boundaries and attacked them head on. The unexpected confrontation wiped out the entirety of the Morais family except for the 14 year old Mai who watched hidden and shocked in a wardrobe as his mother was decapitated by uncle Leo. Leo being the youngest brother of The Lady, had a growing envy within himself to put an end to her and his brothers and kin. He had helped the Sicilian Capello family to infiltrate and defeat the Morais regime of Hammond.

Mai wanted to fight in his guts but his instincts told him to keep hiding and save his life. He waited out the commotion, fled the scene and ran as fast as his feet could carry him. The police found him later and put him in an orphanage which held him for a week before he ran away again. The bloody scene he witnessed, permanently affected his mentality driving him to a PTSD state. He could never forget how his uncle cold bloodedly killed his mother and grabbed from her neck the gold locket containing the first earned dollar which was the heirloom passed down from generations in the Morais family. Mai swore an oath to himself to put an end to his uncle’s life one day and recover the dollar from him and honor the family name.

With one goal in his mind through all the years, Mai grew up in many places around Chicago. He kept a detailed tab on what went on in Hammond where Leo acted as a consigliere to the Capello gang leader Luca de Capello. Mai found work as a metal caster in a foundry which appealed to him both because of his pyromaniac nature and skill with tools. Money was of no value to him, he’d just earn for his large diet and rent, whether it’s through working or robbing. Sometimes he’d get sudden outbreaks of anger, anxiety and depression due to his past trauma, but they weren’t enough to keep him at bay. He grew up to be a strong and smart youth determined and fueled with rage for getting his revenge.

By 2020, the gang presence in the US became prominent with much violence and outbreaks in major cities. The American-Italian mafia, especially the Sicilians, were thriving everywhere. It was at this time The Capello boss Luca sent his trusted consigliere to Los Santos for the purpose of overseeing their business over there. Mai knew this was the perfect moment to strike and left for Los Santos immediately, hot on the trail. It’s worth noting Mai’s undying hatred for gangs as a whole is at an utmost high at this point in his life.
