Maeve O’Hara is a character played by Pastel_Spell.

Description[]

Maeve Róisín O'Hara was born in Galway, Ireland - the beloved only daughter of a psychology professor and nurse - eventually moving to Dublin and later America as her father accepted various teaching positions at different universities. She is highly intelligent, curious, and observant...but also kind, empathetic, and honest to a fault. Her parents raised her to always help people whenever she could, if she could and, as a result, Maeve is a highly compassionate and understanding young woman who strives to help others in need (often with little thought to her own well-being) and possesses a strong sense of justice.

Diagnosed with autism at a young age, Maeve often struggled to fit in socially with her peers. She became hyper-vigilant to the emotional states of others around her, as well as fascinated by human psychology (what motivated them, why they acted the way they did, what society accepted or deemed inappropriate, etc.), studying people in order to adapt herself to what she believed was expected of her. Her father was often able to break them down in a scientific/logical way that was easier for her to understand, helping her make sense of the world. Their frequent moving every few years also meant little in her life was constant for long, and so she learned early on that the only thing she had any real control over was herself – as a result, she became a hard worker with an appreciation for structure and order, frequently seeking new experiences and learning opportunities, with a strong independent streak (and possibly some commitment issues).

Background[]

Maeve grew up absorbing knowledge of psychology from her father and eventually chose to follow in his footsteps and pursue a degree in the field; however, during her time in university, Maeve's father was diagnosed with cancer. Ultimately, she decided to drop out of school in order to work and support her parents, assisting with his day-to-day care and expenses. She worked a number of jobs in this time to keep her family afloat and try to further her education in a practical/hands-on manner - mainly bartending and working with non-profit mental health organizations that provided therapy for and assisted underprivileged youth, rehabilitated lower-level criminals, etc. Occasionally this meant working alongside local police departments, which lead to Maeve developing an interest in criminal psychology, particularly for compulsive criminals (serial killers, arsonists, kleptomaniacs, etc.).

However, Maeve struggled to cope with the precariousness of her family's new reality, and soon developed a drinking problem. She was often out partying with friends, who eventually convinced her to utilize her parents' medical connections to acquire and sell Adderall to other college students - both as a way to support her family and her newfound habit of drinking and partying. It rapidly grew into a fairly profitable but increasingly risky venture...which quickly ended one night when Maeve got behind the wheel while drunk and seriously injured herself and a friend, leading to a large quantity of Adderall being found in their vehicle. Her and her father's connections within the PD (as well as her complete lack of prior criminal history and general demeanor) lead to charges being dropped and swept under the rug, on the condition that she clean her life up and get her act together. Maeve managed to get her drinking under control (although she never went completely sober), cut contact with her friends, and shut down their modest little drug ring...living her life in a very structured and controlled way ever since, adamant she doesn't want to return to that way of living.

Thankfully, after several difficult years, Maeve's father finally entered full remission; about a year later, with her parents' blessing, she decided to move to Los Santos. All of them agreed it was for the best for her to get a fresh start somewhere new, to have the attempt at adulthood and independence her father's illness had denied her...and to perhaps get away from negative influences and reminders. She had heard the stories of the war and the collapse on the news, and it seemed like a place that could really use someone to listen, full of the kinds of people that fascinated her the most...and she hoped that maybe they'd be desperate enough that they wouldn't mind her lack of degree, and she could complete her education in a hospital environment rather than return to formal schooling.

Life in Los Santos[]

Since moving to Los Santos, Maeve singlehandedly built and maintained a successful private therapy practice for months, providing therapy to a wide range of clients from high-ranking government employees, to blue collar workers, to petty criminals, to serial killers. She hoped to eventually prove herself and get hired at Los Santos Medical Group so that she could work alongside the government in matters of criminal psychology (which required formal employment as a doctor with the hospital); however, a hiring freeze at LSMG Psych and personal differences with department head Pixie Tarantino lead to her eventually giving up on her dream of becoming a licensed psychologist in Los Santos.

Maeve decided to formally shutter her practice after being hired by San Andreas Central Dispatch; however, dispatch training proved nearly impossible to receive due to lack of resources, and after watching the department be continuously plagued by disorganization and internal drama with no end or solution in sight...at the urging of Santino Forte, Mayor/Commissioner Maximilian Thoroughbred, and many others, Maeve decided to apply for LSPD, still hoping to find somewhere to put her skills to use and pursue the kind of work she is passionate about. Despite being told to apply by numerous officers and command members (who assured her there would be no repercussions to her employment with Dispatch, especially with numerous other Dispatchers actively having applications in at the time), ultimately, applying for the LSPD lead to her being let go from Dispatch due to her rank as Trainee.

Maeve was left in limbo for months following the termination of her employment with Dispatch, unsure of what to do with herself. The LSPD never contacted her about her application, and Forte was unjustly fired due to unproven allegations of corruption and began to venture into a life of crime himself. Maeve was given offers of joining The Neon Tigers MC alongside Forte but ultimately never went through with it, deciding to remain committed to a legal, civilian life. In early November, she approached Mayor Nino Chavez about some concerns she had with the PSYCH Act. Nino was highly impressed in the meeting they had, and gave her an offer: he could put in a good word with the LSPD about her application or she could join his cabinet; however, a day prior Scotty Bard had also offered Maeve a place with the Department of Corrections after ardent attempts to recruit her, and Maeve suddenly found herself having a choice to make. Maeve chose to join the cabinet, believing she could make more of a difference there than anywhere else. She quickly made an impression as being extremely logical, no-nonsense, intelligent, and unafraid to speak her mind, with major contributions to the cabinet's discussions and new legislative drafts, diligently working to be a voice of the normal, everyday civilians in the city.

After several long and tumultuous months of working tirelessly for the Mayor's Cabinet, writing legislation and fighting countless battles with the DOJ, Maeve decided to resign and finally pursue a career in law enforcement. She had worked alongside the LSPD throughout her time in the cabinet, championing their issues as well as their need for reform and improvement - including encouraging Nino to call in Wyatt Turner, leading to him being brought in as a consultant for the LSPD and eventually Chief of Police. Maeve had built good relations with many of the officers and had had a standing offer for a spot in the LSPD for a few months, whenever she was done working for Nino, and had reached a point where she felt she would be able to do more good from within the LSPD than outside it. Maeve left the cabinet with Nino's enthusiastic blessing and well wishes, and was swiftly hired to Shift 1 of the LSPD.

Maeve has also taken the lead as the business half of Forte Records, handling administrative tasks and business direction, artist management, promotion/PR, etc. She designed Forte's home studio and their performance space, regularly scouts new talent for the label, and often accompanies Forte to most major business meetings.

Relationships[]

Maeve has been in a committed/monogamous relationship with Santino Forte since late March 2024 and they now own a home in Mirror Park together (along with Sanya De Rolo); however, they initially avoided labeling the relationship for over 3 months and often don't speak on their relationship to people they don't know/trust. Their relationship was only formally confirmed/labeled when Forte accidentally admitted Maeve was his girlfriend while on record for testimony provided in Jimbo Sutton v. Santino Forte. Ironically, Forte was Maeve's very first patient in Los Santos, although they only ever ended up having one formal session. Despite the rumors/assumptions, their relationship was strictly professional for quite some time before formally severing their therapist/patient relationship, then eventually becoming friends and only later romantically involved. While many are quick to (honestly, very fairly) label her an overly patient "I can fix him" girly and wonder why she puts up with such a notorious flirt, Maeve remains confident in Santino's faithfulness and believes she sees him for who he truly is; but few see the positive influence Santino has had on Maeve in return, encouraging her to be more assertive in her wants and needs, as well as more confidently discover and be her authentic self (rather than the masked "perfect/normal" version of herself she's learned to present to the world).

Her jawline has been noted as being quite strong/sharp and her nose is also rather prominent, being somewhat arched/hooked in shape. She is 5'8" tall and of average/somewhat curvy build.

Maeve has three tattoos - a rose and skull on her upper left arm, a celtic band on her upper right arm, and the word "Respect" on her lower back.

She often dresses in relatively polished looks (usually in shades of earthy greens, light pinks, soft browns, and white) and has frequently stated using clothing as a tool to make her seem professional, safe, and approachable.

Trivia[]

  • Siobhan Fitzpatrick once lovingly called Maeve "The Most Normal Person in Los Santos" - a sentiment that has been echoed by a number of others as well.
  • She claims she got her "Respect" tramp stamp while drunk as an ironic reminder to herself to stop having one night stands back in her partying days; however, since she couldn't actually see her lower back, it wasn't very effective.
  • Her drink of choice is Irish whiskey, and she is dismissive of other whiskey varieties such as Scotch or Bourbon. Tequila makes her clothes fall off and is avoided at all costs.
  • Maeve is known to sometimes use Gaeilge (Irish) in her speech, although she is not fluent. She also claims her Irish accent used to be stronger than it is now, although it does intensify somewhat in the rare occasions she gets angry or if she is around other Irish people (she also says it got her more tips when working in America as a bartender).
  • Her favorite flower is roses - her middle name means "little rose" in Irish, and is the name of an ancestor of hers.
    • Róisín O'Hara was the name PastelSpell's RedM deputy, and although their exact relationship is unspecified, the name is a nod to her.
    • PastelSpell has also said that her choice in the name "Maeve" (meaning "she who intoxicates") is also a nod to Róisín, whose partner sometimes referred to Róisín as "intoxicating." While each character is obviously unique and has their differences, PastelSpell has said Maeve is in many ways a "modern-day spiritual reincarnation" of Róisín.
  • Maeve has often expressed a love of music, particularly Irish Trad, as it was something that her and her father shared growing up. She claims she wanted to be a singer when she was little, but insists she only sings for her da.
  • Her other hobbies include cozy video games, reading smutty YA fantasy novels, and knitting.
  • Collects lingerie because it makes her feel pretty.
  • Maeve and Forte have canonically binge watched "Bridgerton" together several times, and it is their favorite show.
