Organization[]
In the heart of the bustling city of Los Santos, the sanitation job is a crucial yet often overlooked profession, managed by the efficient and organized Sanitation Boss, Leo Earthwell. Leo's role involves not only assigning routes to his dedicated team of sanitation workers but also overseeing the completion of those routes and ensuring that the city's waste is managed effectively. One of the unique aspects of Leo's leadership is that he provides each sanitation worker with their garbage truck, allowing them the flexibility to choose whether to team up with 2 to 4 colleagues in the same trash truck.
At the core of the sanitation job is the concept of reputation, represented by golden stars, with the highest-rated worker being Teddy Bosco, boasting an impressive 300 stars. As workers accumulate golden stars by completing routes and taking on additional responsibilities, they progress through various levels of reputation, unlocking new tasks and opportunities. The pinnacle is reaching 100 golden stars, granting workers access to the recycling grinder, a vital tool for breaking down recyclable items into valuable materials.
The city's sanitation workers are not just waste collectors; they also play a pivotal role in recycling and repurposing materials. Employees with 50 golden stars or more, begin salvaging recyclable items like old computers, file cabinets, car seats, and bicycles during their routes. Once they hit the coveted 100 golden stars mark, they gain access to the recycling grinder, which transforms these salvaged items into valuable materials used to create new products around the city, such as car parts, furniture, and computer desks plus more.
So far only a few workers have hit 300 golden stars, with many more reaching 200 stars. Currently, many workers attempt to reach 50 stars so that they can partner with another worker who has 200+ stars and receive the most possible materials/
The symbiotic relationship between Sanitation Boss Leo Earthwell and the sanitation workers extends beyond the route assignments and paycheck. Although the direct payout from Leo might not be substantially great, the workers supplement their income by selling the materials they gather or using them for personal projects. The higher the reputation of a sanitation worker, the more lucrative the materials they find, providing a direct correlation between hard work, dedication, and financial gain.
Union[]
- Main article: LSSU - Los Santos Sanitation Union
The sanitation job is not only a profession but also a community, with many of the workers being part of the Los Santos Sanitation Union (LSSU), led by Lang Buddha. Union members are easily identifiable by their light blue hard hats and orange safety vests. Lang Buddha's involvement ensures that union workers receive a lower rate of pay for each material they sell compared to competitors, but, with many union members not realizing this, it still manages to create a sense of unity and support within the LSSU.
The union has been in multiple wars as a result of their willingness to use predatory business tactics and violence in response to competition. The sanitation job in Los Santos is not just about picking up trash; it's a dynamic, interconnected system that highlights the importance of reputation, recycling, and community within the city's diverse workforce.
