Kara Wyatt was born in Salem, Michigan on June 6, 1996 to single mother Esther Wyatt. Kara never knew her father, and Esther declined to talk about him. As a child, Kara suffered from frequent, unexplained seizures; Kara would often accompany her mother to the library, where she worked as a librarian. Six months and six days after Kara's sixth birthday, Kara accompanied her mother to a cabin in the woods near Lake Michigan; Kara awoke in the middle of the night to sounds of chanting downstairs. She crept to the top of the stairs to witness her mother with several other women dressed in black. They sat on each corner of a pentagram, drawn in what appeared to be blood on the floor of the cabin. As Kara watched, her mother took out a lock of what looked to be Kara's hair, and tossed it in the fire; Kara blacked out. When she awoke, she was back in her bed at home, with Esther sitting nearby, seemingly praying; something Kara had never seen her do before. Esther breathed a sigh of relief, and from that day, Kara's seizures subsided. Esther never acknowledged the night at the cabin, and Kara believed the event to have been a bad dream.
Six years, six months, and six days later, while Kara was away at school, Esther died in a house fire, leaving Kara to be transferred to the custody of her Grandmother, Agnes. As Kara grew up, she developed a strong interest in horror films which at first disturbed Agnes, but she grew to enjoy film nights with her granddaughter. After graduating high school, Kara went to film school, but dropped out to move home after Agnes' health began to decline. Agnes died in her sleep a month later. Now an adult, Kara took what remained of what was left to her by her mother and grandmother and went to travel around the world, eventually landing in San Fierro when she ran out of money. Kara got a job working as a mechanic, and began to street race for money at night. While out racing, she met her soon-to-be-wife, Izzy Turner, and the two began to accept contracts with a local racing crew to boost cars. The pair became very successful, and quickly began dating. As time passed, the crew dispersed, and Kara and Izzy became engaged, eventually marrying. The pair eventually decided to move on from San Fierro, and reached out to a racing contact who had spoken to them about Los Santos.
