Hope is a character role-played by Xee.
General Description[]
Hope is the most commonly used name for the supernatural being that takes the shape of a big white crow with blue glowing eyes. She is one half of a pair of birds, the other being a black crow known as Noxee.
Information[]
Hope has been spotted many times near The Lighthouse, or more precisely the island north of it known as "Purgatory Island". Recently she has also made appearances at the graveyard together with Alice Omen.
She usually appears completely white, however, her feathers have been known to change color to black on multiple occasions in the past. Whether or not this happens as a result of maintaining balance or due to something else is unknown. Her feathers also turned black together with her eyes turning green right after curing Bobby Beldrum of the plague.
Although many people refer to the white crow as "Hope" it has not been confirmed to be its actual name, nor what it represents. The name of Hope was given to it by Lennon Bundy while it was in her custody and the name stuck around in the following years. Hope's true name is most likely one that cannot be comprehended by mortal minds, similar to the true names of The Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The closest understanding of the nature of Hope and Noxee was written in one of Norman's journals, where he describes his first encounter with the birds:
"As I looked around in that dark void, having become what I am now. What it was then. I saw that it and I were not alone.
The sound of birds wings violently flapping filled the silent void in a sudden thunder. They had been there all along. As if watching Death, rather than me. Then one of the birds approached. It was the largest of the lot, with red eyes that crackled with fire.
She did not speak, but I understood her purpose. The crows existed as servants of death yes, which is often a common tale told by the living, but the bird's purpose was much more than that. They represent the balance between Life and Death.
She let me see that there was another, like her. A white bird, that was meant to represent and follow the inverse of what I was now. Should things be thrown from balance, they try to recenter themselves.
Along with these facts, If you view Death as a Ferryman, the birds are the Gatekeepers when he arrives."
Another interpretation is that the birds are meant to represent or uphold a form of a balance and/or interconnection of two opposites, similar to that of Yin and yang. Even though being each others opposite, they still act according to what is needed at the time to maintain the balance.[1]
Current Events[]
In an encounter with Hope at the cemetery on January 16, 2025, Alice Omen ate eye balls gifted to her by Hope. Hope left her a nest full of trinkets, including a book about the rituals to open a portal to cross in and out of Purgatory (requiring five white feathers of Hope to enter and five black feathers to return). The book warned that the visitor could get trapped there forever. Hope led Allie to the ghost of TJ Walker, the author of the book. She leaned toward giving the book to Edgar Del Castillo, who had already obtained the hardest feather to collect: the blood-soaked "pluma sacrificii". However, it became moot once Edgar returned all of his feathers to The Lighthouse. Norman Bones then trapped Edgar in Purgatory on January 24, 2025.
Hope would continue to aid Alice by providing her entrance into purgatory as well as the ability to turn invisible. This ability would be put to use during a mission where Alice managed to steal a vial of otherworldly chemicals from Pestilence. On March 29, 2025, the chemicals would be put to use when Hope once again helped Alice into purgatory to free TJ Walker from the chains of Death. Both Alice and TJ made it out of purgatory unscathed. Hope on the other hand was not so lucky, as she was captured by Norman and put into a cage in purgatory, where Noxee would proceed to set the cage on fire. The fires burn on to this day.
As a means to escape or communicate, hope sprouted several flowery bushes both in the cage in purgatory and in its equivalent spot on purgatory island. The bush on purgatory island would also end up on fire on April 9, 2025, after Edgar Del Castillo threw a molotov at it that had been provided by Noxee.
Powers[]
- Just like Noxee, Hope has the power to bring people in an out of Purgatory.
- She has the ability to cure people from the plague though this appears to exhaust her, turning her feathers black and eyes green.
Trivia[]
- According to the book of rules Hope left for Alice Omen, a ritual using five white feathers of Hope (including a blood-soaked one called the "pluma sacrificii") can open a portal to Purgatory. A ritual using five black feathers of Noxee (called the "plumae tenebrarum") reopens the portal, but only the dead can grasp them and complete the return ritual.
