Douglas 'Doug' James came to Los Santos looking to create opportunity, after a fateful night led him to learn of Los Santos.
History[]
Douglas is a former military demolitions expert who turned to a motorcycle and the free, open road after the honourable discharge earned from two tours of duty serving his country. Those who knew him in the military can attest to his loyalty to his unit and the solemn way he carried himself, aside from a couple scraps with his commanding officers. Towards the end of his second tour of duty, Doug became disenchanted with the rigidity of military life and waited with tightly-contained anticipation for his discharge day. When that day arrived, Doug set forth to determine what his post-military life would be like.
As much as he grew to dislike following strict sets of rules and bending to authority figures, Doug's experiences in the military taught him to value loyalty, family, and brotherhood. Eventually, Doug ended up in a city where he joined a motorcycle club, it was hectic, fun, and the brotherhood Doug was looking for. It was not for long though, strange things were afoot in the city, and with the president of his club. Doug soon found himself helping his brothers and his president fulfill one final mission, a glorious send off, for his president. Soon after, the club was no more, with a nod and smile, each member rode off, knowing this was not the end for them, but the end of their journey together.
Doug spent about a year riding around the country, he picked up cards as a fun way to pass the time and make some extra money, hopping from casino to casino and card room to card room, Doug was able to get by just fine. One night these big shots were drunk and talking loose in an underground poker game, they mentioned a city called Los Santos in the state of San Andreas, and how there were plenty of options for earning money, both over the table and under it, including a brand new Diamond Casino and Resort that was set to open. As a card player Doug was intrigued, new casinos bring fresh players, fresh players could mean Doug can hit it big at the tables, this could give Doug the fresh start he was looking for in this new chapter of his life. So he sold his sweetheart and hopped on a flight to LS.
Doug's Voice[]
Doug is very memorable and recognisable to everyone he meets, not because of his beard or his demeanour, but by his voice. When Doug was a child he loved his trains, he would play with his trains all the time especially during Christmas, where he would have an entire winter railway setup around the tree. One morning, while his mom was baking fresh cinnamon rolls for him and his brother, Doug went to connect two disconnected pieces of his railway. Normally this is safe, but Doug, without knowing it, had accidentally grounded himself with his foot by touching a metal piece of furniture while he grabbed the tracks. This sent electricity pulsating through Doug's body, Doug exclaimed while the model train-set fried him like a chicken. In the end, Doug was ok, but his appearance and his vocal chords took quite the hit.
For the next few weeks, Doug made his way around school with darkened skin, hair standing on end, a high pitched voice, and static shocks of electricity occasionally zapping objects around him. People would often ask him if he is sad, or crying, but that was just the nature of Doug's new voice. Doctors said they could try and operate, but that runs the risk of Doug losing his voice altogether completely, something Doug is not willing to risk.
