Desmond "Dez" Deckard is a convicted felon currently serving a life sentence in Bolingbroke Penitentiary. His role-player does not stream.
Backstory[]
Prior to his imprisonment, Desmond was a patched member of the San Andreas chapter of the [REDACTED] MC and a Blaine County native. Desmond was indoctrinated into the club at a young age. He spent the latter half of his teen years as a prospect, beholden to the club and the wishes of his abusive father - the club's Sergeant at Arms.
As a member, Desmond regularly tortured, assaulted, and ultimately murdered many San Andreas residents on behalf of [REDACTED] MC throughout his 20s. He often used tattooing equipment in his acts of violence, owing to a lost childhood passion for art. As he approached the age of 30, an ultimately remorseful Desmond eventually plead guilty to all relevant charges and was granted a reprieve from his likely death sentence. He was sent to Bolingbroke Penitentiary to serve a life sentence.
Appearance[]
Desmond's face has been brutally "tattooed" as a punishment at the hands of his club, leaving his mouth and most of the left side of his face permanently scarred & stained with ink. The punishment followed a choice Desmond made against his club's orders. Desmond now bears the mark with pride, a sign of freedom & individuality representing one of his first real acts of independence. This tattoo is the same sort of permanent mark he would apply to his victims at the club's bidding.
Quotes[]
"Don't cause problems for me, I won't cause problems for you - hell, I may even solve a few."
"I am the strength of mind and the rage of patience."
"I ask the hard questions no one else will."
"My father's the last cancer I'll ever let control me."
"When the prison spoke, I listened. Now, when I speak, the prison listens."
"We're better in here. The outside world - this island? It's a grave."
"Be better. Be. Better. BE. BETTER."
"Control the rage. Don't let it control you."
Feats[]
- Dez has remained almost purely pacifist in Bolingbroke for over a year of real time. The few notable exceptions include several bouts in the boxing ring - where people could 'opt in' to the pain and thus free Dez from guilt over violence - as well as one time "knocking some sense" into Loops for making Amelia cry, brutalizing the incessant Kirk Jerkems one bad night after he would not relent, and when he used a firearm he'd had stashed to shoot down four magical 'Christmas elves' on Christmas Eve as the clock struck midnight. One of the elves was made entirely of gingerbread.
- Dez has never been intentionally injured in a serious manner (stabbing, shooting, burning, etc.) by any other lifer in Bolingbroke during his time imprisoned. He was once stabbed accidentally by Thur Dee while standing close to the intended DOC target. Some doubt exists whether Dez let himself be stabbed, as he immediately capitalized on Thur Dee's guilt to establish stronger influence over his actions.
- Dez established The Convict Council of Bolingbroke during the prison's most populated and chaotic era. This 'Council' was a neutral democratic body that would come together as 5 voices, 5 votes, (each representative of various factions within the prison) to determine a united course of action for all lifers in matters that affect all lifers, i.e, dealing with the Department of Corrections, indiscriminate cell block bunk-flips, yard-wide rules, war with outside gangs, etc. At the insistence of his peers - and according to his planning - Dez was appointed as the tie-breaking 'Arbiter'. The Council eventually dissolved from being a static body with chosen seats and survives today only in a niche functionary capacity. Dez had, at the time, some form of power or influence over every vote.
- The Convict Council of Bolingbroke successfully implemented a yard-wide 'ban list' of several Department of Corrections officers during Kai B. Knight's term as Warden against several officers, establishing rules of engagement akin to assault-on-sight if any of the restricted officers entered general population.
- Dez has survived a battle with lung cancer and is in remission as of August, 2022. Balto Connelly, Odiment Velsing-Sparrow, and Tsury Nanakaze were instrumental in convincing Desmond to pursue treatment despite worries over his legacy and providing successful treatment thereafter.
- When Dez's fellow angry lifer, cell neighbor, and friend CJ passed away, Dez took over his cell. This cell had previously belonged to Bovice Wilkinson, who had been absent from the prison's general population for some time. Referring to it as 'the Big Cell', Desmond held this cell for several months before Bovice returned to the yard. Upon Bovice's return, the two lifers met for the first time. In a single conversation, Dez established himself as Bovice's equal and worthy of respect. The two bonded over laughter at Lennon Lee, among other things. Bovice told Dez he could keep his cell. Dez told Bovice he didn't want it. Dez used all of this in much of the prideful posturing and theatrics he'd go on to perform, often calling himself 'the Man in the Big Cell' and 'Bovice's equal'.
- Dez walked Amelia Waters, core member of The Pack, down the aisle at her wedding to fellow Pack member Lucas "Loops" Lee. He often acts as father figure to both. He personally considers this one of his greatest achievements, and one of the happiest days of his life.
- Warden and ally Charles "Chuck" Lafayette died on duty while defending Dez from Jeremy Phillips, the first lifer to intentionally attempt to stab Desmond.
