Anastasia Gatsby is a character roleplayed by Likobear.
General Information[]
Before moving to Los Santos, Anastasia Gatsby had accomplished her dreams. Recruited straight out of university by the Canadian Security & Intelligence Service (CSIS) as an intelligence analyst, she was fast tracked in her position thanks to her abstract thinking and inquisitive nature. Her high performance saw her transferred to a field position early on, working out of the Canadian Embassy in Moscow. Anastasia loved her job, and she was good at it, but her fate wasn't in her hands—it was in an unlocked briefcase in a strip club back in Ottawa.
The negligence of a federal MP saw a list of active CSIS agents and operatives currently in the field. While the majority of those named were able to be recalled safely without incident, Anastasia was in the minority. Picked up by the FSB, Anastasia spent a week at one of the Kremlin's black sites before the Canadian government could negotiate for her release.
While she was able to continue doing translation work for CSIS, Anastasia wasn't able to return to the job that she so loved. Her only consolation being that she found love in her return to Canadian soil, marrying the man she would call her soulmate. Even that was cut tragically short, however, as the couple drove down the expressway for Anastasia's service dog's vet appointment. Her husband heard the click first, moving immediately to try and shield her from the blast of the car bomb. She was the only one to survive the explosion, the shrapnel causing extensive scarring on her body and her brain. She lost her ability to walk, her fine motor control, and a lot of her memory.
By the time she was fully recovered, she realized that there was nothing left for her in Canada. Her life that she knew and loved was gone. In a drunken spiral, Anastasia decided to throw a dart at a world map, wherever it landed was where she would go.
It landed in the middle of the ocean, but San Andreas was the closest landmass to the dart, and so she moved to Los Santos.
After arriving to a new and overwhelming city, Anastasia searched for simplicity with a lack of responsibility. When she saw an ad saying that UwU Café was hiring, she figured she had found herself a good start. She was content cooking in the kitchen and helping out the front end when necessary. One day, coming into work, she noticed an announcement on the bulletin board advertising for farmers wanted. When she called the number attached, she began speaking with James Haze about working for him at Greener Pastures.
It was while farming with him that Haze’s work with the DoJ came up and piqued Anastasia's interest. She began working as a paralegal for him while checking in with Judge Cross with her progress until he decided she was ready for her Bar License.
After roughly a year of representing those in need through Los Santos’ justice system, Anastasia ran for judge. Her work as a judge has been tireless and varied, focusing on where she was needed and pouring her heart and soul into helping the city as best she could.
When the state collapse occurred, Anastasia had already left the island, returning to Canada to live in a remote cabin on the northern shores of Lake Superior. After nearly four years on the lakefront, her home was burned to the ground, former work colleagues suspecting that the Kremlin wasn't satisfied with her being a loose end in their intelligence web.
Anastasia had no choice but to turn to her friends and rely on them for help. She spent the next year in Switzerland, recovering from the devastating blow to her mental health and wellbeing. When the borders of San Andreas reopened, she made the decision to return, having decided it was the best place for her. Seeing the state of the city, Anastasia made the decision that once again, she could offer more and help more as a judge helping to rebuild this crumbled city.
